On Wednesday, January 21 at 9:30 a.m. the Homeward Bound Halton program will be officially launched in the SCAET Auditorium at the Trafalgar Campus.
Aimed at tackling poverty in Halton, the community-based program will provide affordable housing, free child care and a fully-funded college education with a built-in internship to single-parent mothers facing economic hardship or homelessness. A total of 15 participants will be assisted through the program over the next three years.
Homeward Bound Halton is the first replication in Canada of WoodGreen Community Services’ highly-successful program in Toronto. It is offered collaboratively by Home Suite Hope, Halton Region, the Oakville Community Foundation and Sheridan College.
Following formal remarks, an art installation will be unveiled created by Sheridan students Alivia Checchiaunder, Emily Ceh, Hannah Metcalf and Heather Varty under the supervision of professors Mary Jane Carroll and Anais Deragopian. The installation will remain at the Trafalgar Campus for the duration of the Homeward Bound Halton program to symbolize its importance to the Sheridan community.
