Sheridan’s Student Rights and Responsibilities Office is pleased to share two updated policies that were approved by President’s Council on January 13, 2015:

1. Student Code of Conduct

2. Student at Risk and Intervention Policy

1. Student Code of Conduct Policy

Sheridan is dedicated to creating an academic community that is safe and respectful, where students develop individually and in collaboration with their peers. All Sheridan students are expected to act responsibly and uphold standards of conduct that form the basis for good citizenship.

The purpose of the Student Code of Conduct is to provide guidelines for appropriate behaviour, protect the rights of Sheridan community members and ensure procedural fairness for those navigating through the student conduct process. This policy identifies behaviour that is considered student Misconduct (as defined in the policy) and the procedure outlines the sanctions which may be imposed when students act in a manner that is inconsistent with Sheridan’s policies.

2. Student At Risk and Intervention Policy

The Student at Risk Intervention Team (SARIT) was initiated during the 2010-2011 academic year as a pilot project. The need for this team has progressively expanded to consist of a multi-disciplinary panel comprised of various committee members across numerous departments at Sheridan College. The SARIT policy formalizes the team’s current practices in support of student success.

The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework for the identification of students at risk, the coordination of early preventative intervention(s) and defines the role and responsibility of the Student at Risk and Intervention Team.

At Sheridan, we are committed to fostering the success and safety of our students, and will take all reasonable steps to ensure individual needs or periods of crisis and distress do not hinder a student’s academic, personal or social growth. Sheridan’s Student at Risk and Intervention Policy is designed to support students experiencing physical, mental, and/or emotional difficulties.

Any questions regarding these policies should be directed to Michael Jones or Sunand Sharma, Managers of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
