The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is proud to announce the launch of a new film series at Sheridan: Film 4 Thought! This series is an open-to-the-public, creative community engagement initiative that will consist of film screenings twice a semester, rotating amongst Sheridan campuses, which will foster an environment of cultural exchange. Each installment of the series will feature the full screening of a documentary or fiction-based film that provides fertile ground for dialogue, followed by a discussion moderated by Sheridan faculty and students.
The first installment of Film 4 Thought is hosted in partnership with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton, and we would like to invite Sheridan students, faculty and staff to an evening of film-screening and discussion in recognition of Black History Month.
The film is The Road Taken – a 1996 documentary directed by award-winning, Trinidad-born filmmaker Selwyn Jacob – which presents the experience of Black sleeping-car porters working on Canada’s railways in the mid-20th Century; the film also chronicles the porters’ legal battles against harsh working conditions and discrimination. The event will be open to the public and will consist of a screening of the film, followed by an interdisciplinary discussion moderated by Sheridan faculty as well as students who will be studying the film as part of their course work in the General Education elective, Documentary Film.
When: February 17, from 7 – 9 p.m.
Where: B125 at the Trafalgar Campus
We hope you can join us!
