The nominations for the annual Dora Awards were announced last week, and there is a strong Sheridan connection to several of the nominations. David Matheson, a professor in the Theatre and Drama Studies joint bachelor’s degree program with UTM, is also the head of Wordsmyth Theatre. Their production of The Dumb Waiter, by Harold Pinter, received four nominations in the Independent Theatre Division.
Bloodless, Theatre 20′s new musical, received eight nominations in the Musical Theatre Division. Bloodless was workshopped by Music Theatre Performance students last summer as part of the Canadian Music Theatre Project.
Recent Technical Production alumnus John Grosz received two nominations in the Independent Theatre Division for Outstanding Set and Costume Design for his work on Mr. Marmalade.
And, the ensemble of The Wizard of Oz, dominated by Sheridan graduates, was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in the Musical Theatre Division.
Congratulations to all! The Doras will be awarded on June 24.
