The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHASS) recently partnered with the Oakville Community Foundation (OCF) for a two-day creative problem-solving workshop discussing issues affecting quality of life and community well-being in Oakville.
The workshops brought together community leaders from across Oakville and Halton who engaged in collective brainstorming to identify issues and develop sustainable solutions, as well as explore opportunities for strategic partnerships amongst community organizations. The event was part of the preparation for the OCF’s Vital Signs® report, to be released in October 2015.
Sheridan’s team included Sean McNabney, Patrice Esson and Janet Shuh, who facilitated the creative problem-solving workshop over the two-day period. A number of FHASS faculty members, with research interests in housing, economic inequality, child development, and youth in conflict with the law, also participated. Sarah McPherson, Director of Communications and Development for the OCF, was positive about the results: “Sessions like these, along with continued discussions with those unable to attend, will all go to helping build important partnerships and provide a valuable report,” she said.
