In May 2015, Jane Miroshnykova, a graduate of the Investigation: Public & Private program received the Joe Moylan Award of Excellence from the Justice and Public Safety Coordinators of Ontario.

Jane has an extensive record of volunteer work with not-for-profit organizations and has volunteered at the college as a peer mentor in addition to her service as an auxiliary platoon leader with the Toronto Police Service. In April 2015, Jane was recognized by the United Way Oakville for her community service through a “Generation Next Top 20 under 40 Volunteer Award’. In 2012, Jane graduated from the Sheridan Early Childhood Education program with high honours and now holds two diplomas from the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies.

The coordinator of the Investigation program, Gary Galbraith, says: “Through her volunteer work with local organizations and her contribution to the Sheridan community as a peer mentor, Jane is a fine example of a community builder. It was this combination of community service, academic achievements and her work with the Toronto Police Service which led to Jane’s selection as the Sheridan candidate. Jane is an excellent embodiment of the spirit of the Joe Moylan award and a worthy holder of this prestigious award.”

Background of the award:

Through his work as a professor at Algonquin College and as the chair of the provincial coordinators’ committee, Joe Moylan was a driving force in promoting the creation of Police Foundations programs in Ontario. In appreciation of Joe’s contribution to college education, his colleagues created an award of excellence in his name, which is bestowed on an annual basis to a graduating student from a Police Foundations or Law & Security program who demonstrates volunteer service in the community, outstanding academic achievement, and a personal commitment to physical fitness. Each college nominates one student from their programs and a committee of the coordinators then decides on a single winner from across the province.
