Facilities Factoids 2015

Here is a round-up of the work completed by Facilities this summer:

Summer Students working at all four campuses:
- Consumed a whopping 928 gallons (4,219 litres) of latex paint to refresh common space and classroom walls (approx. 371,200 sq. ft. or 34,486 sq. m.)
- Scrubbed an additional 35,000 sq. ft. (3,252 sq. m.) of classroom and common space walls

Renovated Classroom & Office Spaces: Total area – 38,000 sq. ft. (approx. 3,530 sq. m….almost the size of C building expansion 2012 at Davis, or A building expansion 2007 at Trafalgar)
New game design lab space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
New gaming beta testing lab space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
New gaming production studio space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
New motion capture studio space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
New interactive design lab space for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
New athletic therapy lab space for FAHCS, Davis Campus
New tutorial center for Library & Learning Services, Trafalgar Campus
New office space for Records & Information Management, Trafalgar Campus
Modification & upgrades to existing hybrid lab for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
Modification & upgrades to existing make-up studio for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
Modification & upgrades to existing sound media studio for FAAD, Trafalgar Campus
Modification & upgrades to existing chemistry labs for FAST, Davis Campus
Modification & upgrades to existing office space for FHASS, Trafalgar Campus
H&S upgrades to existing furniture studio workshop, Trafalgar Campus
Classroom upgrades for FAST, Trafalgar Campus
Renovated office space for Marketing & Advancement, Trafalgar Campus
Renovated office space for IT Department, Trafalgar Campus
Lighting upgrades in the robotics lab for FAST, Davis Campus

Constructed 2,000 sq. ft. (186 sq. m.) clerestory over Library atrium at the Trafalgar Campus

Replaced over 22,000 sq. ft. (2,044 sq. m.) of asphalt roofing complete with dense-cell foam insulation and white reflective stone at Trafalgar and Davis

Replaced flooring coverings: Trafalgar & Davis Campuses
- 24,528 sq. ft. (2,279 sq. m.) in classrooms, laboratories & common spaces
- 7,412 sq. ft. (689 sq. m. ) in office spaces

Advanced Major Capital projects:
- Construction of the new HMC2 building (220,000 sq. ft. or 20,439 sq. m.) Mississauga Campus – planned for September 2016
- Construction of the new A-wing building (130,000 sq. ft. or 12,077 sq. m.), Davis Campus – planned for January 2017

C-wing Trafalgar:

Constructed two (2) new mechanical penthouses on the roof of the C-wing building at the Trafalgar campus – Features include:
Three new air handling units (AHU’s) providing seven (7) times more fresh (outside) air for each occupant of the building
Energy recovery ventilator (ERV) capturing over 85% of energy (heat/cold) from exhaust air exiting the building to pre-condition fresh air entering the building
Managing heating/cooling, humidity, CO2 levels and temperature set-points in teaching/learning and office spaces for the first time in forty-three (43) years

Davis & Trafalgar:

New building automation system (BAS) and zone based controls in parts of B-wing & heating/cooling plant at Davis; C-wing, SCAET, G-wing and parts of J-wing at Trafalgar
Installed eighty-five (85) new meters (electrical, thermal, gas & steam) to measure & verify energy use in our buildings
Installed 1,104 LED lighting fixtures with occupancy and daylight harvesting (where required) sensors, all fully integrated with new Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) control systems
Recycled 6500 lbs. (2,948 kg.) of scrap metal

All Campuses: Congratulations Sheridan Community!

We reduced landfill waste by 123 tons (39%) and improved the amount of waste diverted from landfill (diversion rate) by 32% at Davis
We reduced landfill waste by 181 tons (35%) and improved diversion rate by 28% at Trafalgar
We reduced landfill waste by 35 tons (36%) and improved diversion rate by 27% at STC
We reduced landfill waste by 13 tons (26%) and improved diversion rate by 25% at HMC

Executed a wide range of miscellaneous projects which included:
Replacing 33,000 sq. ft. (3,065 sq. m.) of asphalt pavement at Trafalgar campus
Constructing new 32,000 sq. ft. ( 2,973 sq. m.) parking lot for residence/conference centre at Trafalgar
Creating additional outdoor seating areas at Davis and Trafalgar
Successfully recovered and recycled over 13 lbs. (5.9 kg.) of chewing gum from classroom furniture at all campuses: The flavour of the year is trending toward spearmint……..
