It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since we first opened our doors! In celebration of our partnership, we invite you to join us for tea, coffee and cake on Friday December 4, anytime between 2-3:30pm.
In 2005, Student Advisement was established in response to the need to enhance the student experience. The design of Student Advisement included 4 key functions:
1. A Comprehensive First Point of Contact
• Student Success Officers continue to provide accurate information
and proactive support to our students. They have an expert knowledge on
everything Sheridan and the student life cycle.
2. Developmental Student Advising
• Student Advisors continue to provide developmental advising; one
comprehensive discussion with students in a single advising session.
Student Advisors identify underlying issues and work together with students
to create a customized action plan.
3. New Student Orientation & First Year Transition
• We continue to coordinate, improve and grow Sheridan’s
Orientation and First Year Transition activities. This community effort helps
new students to make a smooth transition to Sheridan.
4. Data Collection & Research
• We are committed to staying abreast of the changing student need and
making evidence based decisions.
In 2005, we also identified that a collaborative culture at Sheridan would be critical to both the creation and implementation of the Student Advisement model. It has been our on-going partnership with all of you, which has helped make an impact on the student experience. In the initial years Student Advisement had approximately 10,000 visits per year and now we have over 50,000 visits annually.
