The Social Service Worker Program’s Social Justice and Action Committee (SJAC) is hosting a panel presentation and discussion on Syrian Newcomers and Settlement on Tuesday February 23, 2016 6:30-8:30p.m. at the Trafalgar Campus, room J102. The community presenters will share information about the Syrian community, the current situation with newcomers, and ways we can support the community.
Panel Presenters:
Rabia Khedr, MA, is the Executive Director of the Muslim Council of Peel, a Human Rights Trainer and Consultant under her own company, diversityworX, Founder and Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Muslims with Disabilities.
Mustafa Alio, Manager of Business Development Sama Services Inc.; a speaker for Lifeline Syria; and one of the Co-founders for Refugee Career Jumpstart Project.
Bayan Khatib, Communications Manager, UOSSM-Canada (Union of Medical Care and Relief Organizations) which coordinates medical relief missions and projects in conflict zones. Bayan works with Lifeline Syria to engage Canadians in doing their part to help with the Syrian refugee crisis.
Roger Kaprielian, Associate Medical Director at Alexion pharma Canada. He recently sponsored two families from Aleppo Syria to come to Toronto for a chance for a new life.
Maryse Prazuch, LINC Professor and Academic Advisor, FCAPS, Sheridan College. Maryse has been a faculty member in the Sheridan LINC and ESL programs since 1998 and has taught a range of language training courses to immigrants, refugees and international students. She served as LINC and ESL Program Coordinator for many years and is currently the PD Committee Chair of the Peel, Halton, Etobicoke Affiliate of TESL Ontario.
