On March 7, 2016 the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) filed an application with the Ontario Labour Relations Board to become the bargaining agent for part time support staff and student employees working in Ontario’s 24 colleges.
In Ontario, colleges bargain collectively. OPSEU already represents full-time academic and support staff employees at each college while the College Employer Council serves as the bargaining agent that represents the management of all 24 colleges in the province.
Sheridan respects the right of part-time support staff employees to choose whether a union is right for them. It is committed to a fair bargaining process and to maintaining a respectful work environment.
Voting by part time support staff, including student employees, will take place at all colleges in Ontario, including Sheridan, during the month of April. All individuals who are eligible to participate will be sent an email to their Sheridan work email account in the coming days which will provide additional details about the voting process.
