The mission of the Sheridan Research Ethics Board and this policy is to ensure that research affiliated with Sheridan involving human participants meets the highest Ethical Standards. To do this, Sheridan follows the guidelines set out in the Tri-Council Policy Statement on Ethics Conduct Involving Humans (2014).
In accordance with Sheridan’s Strategic Plan, the Sheridan Human Policy is no longer an administrative policy, but rather an academic policy. As such, this policy and procedure with its accompanying application form needed to go through the Sheridan Senate.
To prepare for Senate and in consultation with Sheridan’s Legal Counsel, the Secretariat on Responsible Conduct of Research, and after reviewing Applicant feedback of REB process, members of the Sheridan Research Ethics Board updated the Human Participants Policy, Procedure and Application form to align with the 2008 and then 2014 updates to the Tri-council policy statement.
In the Spring term of 2015 the Policy and Procedure went through Sheridan’s Senate and subsequently received final approval from Sheridan’s Board of Governors on November 25th, 2015.
