To support the work of Program Coordinators and Academic Advisors, a team of Student Advisors meet with students in poor academic standing. Advising sessions encourage self-reflection, and are goal and solution focused.
Students on Academic Probation may benefit from a developmental advising session which includes:
- an understanding of probation requirements and possible implications
- a discussion about potential options (e.g. purposeful conversations with faculty)
- preparation activities, prior to meeting with other specialists (e.g. Career Counsellor)
- a Student Success Plan, including a personalized strategy
Students with a May Not Continue standing may also benefit from a developmental advising session. Student Advisors listen to the student’s situation, discuss possible options and outline next steps in a Student Success Plan.
As a starting point, students with an Academic Probation or May Not Continue standing may be referred to: manageyouracademics.sheridancollege.ca
