One of Sheridan’s strategic goals is to “Build our reputation as a leading employer.” Our focus remains one of attracting the best talent and retaining a highly engaged workforce. The PD fund is just one of the many ways that Sheridan provides a stimulating workplace environment that encourages creativity and innovation and fosters ongoing employee professional development.
The Centre for People & Organizational Development (CPOD) would like you to be aware of important details for those considering applying for professional development funding:
1. Preplanning is essential in preparing your application.
2. Eligible employees can apply for up to $1000 per fiscal year (April 1-March 31).
3. Deadlines to be aware of:
- If an employee would like to access PD funds an application for funding with supporting documentation must be completed, signed by the employee and their Manager and submitted to CPOD (B237 at Trafalgar) before the start date of the PD activity.
- The next important deadline to be aware of are the monthly committee deadline dates published on our webpage. If a completed application is received before the second Monday of a month (with the exception of July/August), the committee will review and tender a decision regarding funding approval at that month’s meeting. Results will be communicated by no later than the end of the month. However, please note, ultimately, if an application is received after the PD activity has begun, the Committee will not review the application as it is considered ineligible.
4. The Professional Development Fund Committee does not meet during the months of July and August. Please ensure your applications are complete and submitted to HR before the June deadline, Monday June 13th, 2016 . Applications received after this date but before the date of the PD activity will be deferred to the September meeting.
5. As per Sheridan’s corporate Travel Policy any College approved activity that requires travel outside of Ontario and Canada requires a completed Travel Approval Form. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure this form is completed and signed by their Manager and VP. The PD Committee will not review an application for funding until CPOD receives a photocopy of an authorized Travel Approval Form.
