Please join me in giving a warm welcome to Cherie Werhun, the Centre for Teaching and Learning’s new Associate Dean. Cherie will be leading the Teaching and Learning (faculty development) portfolio at Sheridan. Cherie comes to us from the University of Toronto, where she has been the Teaching Assessment & Course Evaluation Coordinator in the Centre for Teaching Support and Innovation. She is an award-winning teacher, having been a faculty member at the University of Winnipeg, OCAD and University of Toronto Mississauga, in the departments of Psychology, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Management, respectively. With a PhD in psychology, Cherie’s research experience ranges from her doctoral thesis on the impact of contextual factors on student learning and achievement to oversight of the Honours Research Program in Psychology at the University of Winnipeg to a more recent focus on effective use of student feedback and course evaluations as the institutional lead for the University of Toronto’s teaching assessment framework and online system for all three campuses. Throughout her appointments, Cherie’s roles have also included designing and delivering workshops and working with individual faculty and teams on improving communication, designing inclusive learning, scaffolding curriculum, cultivating a reflective practice, creating cultures of feedback within the classroom, and integrating research into teaching. Cherie looks forward to joining Sheridan, working within a dynamic community that focuses on experiential learning, close ties to industry and strong student-faculty relationships.
