Sheridan grads proved that they aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty in pursuit of a good cause this month. Alumni spanning all faculties joined forces with family, friends and community members to plant 750 trees on May 14 to help renew our urban forest. They braved the cold and rain to participate in Oakville’s Arbor Day tree planting event at the Shannon Creek woodland which was significantly impacted by the Emerald Ash Borer.
The Arbor Day tree planting event was the first in a series of initiatives launched by Sheridan’s Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS) Alumni Board designed to give back to our neighbourhoods.
“Sheridan FAHCS grads have a long history of making a difference in our communities in countless ways. Our alumni took this initiative on in the spirit of the contributions they make as part of their professions,” said David Mader, Chair, FAHCS Alumni Board. “The Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies is all about people who work with individuals first-hand in the community, providing them with valuable services and support.”
Mader is a 2004 graduate of Sheridan’s Community Worker: Outreach and Development program who brings hands-on corporate fundraising experience to his current role as Manager, Digital Development, Albanese Branding in Hamilton.
