Zero Waste Gets Real - flyer Dec 9

As the new Zero Waste bins have been rolled out in B Wing at the Trafalgar campus for a week, we would like to thank the staff, faculty and visitors for your feedback. Below are three common questions you asked and our responses.

  1. Where does the coffee cup go?
  • The Organics stream (Green bin). The plastic coffee cup lid goes to Mixed Recycling (Blue bin).
  • A new poster showing the most common items for the three streams of waste is now posted at each of the waste stations.
  1. What kind of waste goes to the small black basket under the desk in my office?
  • The black basket collects the waste that goes to landfill.
  • For organic waste, bring it to the Billi Bins at the kitchenette or printroom near your office.  The cleaning staff will empty the Billi Bins at the end of the day.
  1. Why are there no paper towels in the washrooms?
  • According to a waste audit done on campus in April, 20% of the waste collected was paper towels. So paper towels are on the top of our waste reduction list. We are trying to reduce redundancy that may exist in the washrooms.
  • We will continue to review the needs in the washrooms.

We are reviewing the results of the Zero Waste bins in this pilot. Please feel free to contact me with any questions and feedback. I will continue to visit different offices this week.
