It is with mixed joy and regret that I announce that Alan Reid has decided to retire from his position as Associate Dean, School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship. Alan’s last day at Sheridan will be August 31st, 2016.

Alan’s expertise in Skilled Trades education is widely-known and highly respected throughout Ontario and Canada. In 2014, Alan was invited to Sheridan’s Long Service Awards as a 35-year recipient, a history which started immediately following his immigration to Canada. Alan has worked as a Professor, Coordinator, Manager, and most recently, Associate Dean for the School of Skilled Trades throughout his impressive tenure at Sheridan.

Under Alan’s leadership, Sheridan’s School of Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship has grown into one of the premier schools in Canada.  Alan built, from the ground up, Sheridan’s industrial apprenticeship programs (machining, tool and die, millwright) into the strongest in the province.  He has contributed to these skilled trades programs everywhere in Ontario by writing much of the curriculum used in every industrial trades program across the colleges.

On a personal note, Alan has been a profound influence on me, and has provided a thorough and historical education about Skilled Trades and Apprenticeships.  His knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for the skilled trades is witnessed every day in his work at STC.  We will all have the opportunity to wish Alan a happy retirement at a farewell event. Details will be announced in the near future.

I know you will join me in congratulating Alan on his retirement and sending him best wishes for a long and happy retirement.
