Sheridan’s Library and Learning Services provides an easy, fast (and entertaining!) way to learn how to “copy right” in the classroom and on SLATE.  Check out Copy Right at Sheridan College, a SLATE virtual community, for quick, self-paced copyright training.

You’ll find the Copy Right at Sheridan College virtual community in your SLATE course listings. You can also search for it on SLATE (search for “Copy Right at Sheridan College – 123976_VC”) or, once you’re logged in to SLATE, click on this link, Homepage – Copy Right at Sheridan College, to be taken directly there.

The modules are entirely voluntary and available to you at any time. Once in the course, short videos will give you a general overview of copyright owner rights and your rights as an educator. You can take a quiz to test your understanding and you can download a fact sheet for future reference. As well, we’ve provided short videos on copyright FAQs, like “Can I Use YouTube in the Classroom?”; “Can I Show a Movie in the Classroom?”; and “How Do I Deal with Fair Dealing?”

These award-winning copyright learning modules were developed for all Ontario colleges by the Copyright Literacy in Ontario Colleges project, a group of librarians that include Patricia Buckley, Sheridan’s Copyright Coordinator, and Shelley Woods, Sheridan’s FAAD Liaison Librarian.   The videos were vetted by legal counsel specializing in copyright law.

Copyright help is always available. Check out Sheridan’s Copyright Guidelines for Faculty or contact our Copyright Coordinator, Patricia Buckley.
