The Sheridan community is invited to support Mississauga-Brampton South MPP Amrit Mangat’s petition to the Legislative Assembly to pass Bill 215, which would designate February 14th in Ontario as Hazel McCallion Day.

Bill 215, the Hazel McCallion Day Act, is meant to celebrate the life work of Ms. McCallion, Sheridan’s Inaugural Chancellor, as a councillor, mayor, community leader and volunteer. In celebrating these achievements, MPP Mangat also hopes to inspire young women to pursue civic engagement and public service career opportunities.

The bill would designate February 14th in Ontario as Hazel McCallion Day, which is her birthday. While it would not be recognized as an official holiday, the date could create an annual opportunity for discussions around the importance of supporting women in leadership roles and working together to break down social barriers.  Click here to learn more about the petition.

Sheridan students, faculty and staff are invited to add their authentic, physical signatures to the petition.  Beginning this week until September 9th, paper copies of the petition will be made available to sign at the following locations:
