It is with mixed emotion that I share with you news that Steven Parfeniuk, Sheridan’s Senior Vice-President Finance and Administration, has announced his intention to retire. Steven has been with Sheridan since the fall of 2010 and was one of the first people I hired as a new President. He has been a key member of my executive team and under his leadership a great deal has been advanced in support of our students.
Some of his notable accomplishments include institutional leadership on the construction of both phases of the Hazel McCallion Campus, construction of a new residence at the Trafalgar Campus, expansion of the Engineering wing at the Davis Campus as well as the construction of the new Trades Centre at the Davis Campus. Steven was also the creative force behind Sheridan’s Integrated Energy and Climate Master Plan that is rewarding us with significant energy savings and demonstrating peerless environmental leadership in the higher education community in Canada.
Aside from these capital development initiatives, Steven led the annual budget planning process and it is to his great credit that Sheridan maintains a healthy financial foundation and outlook. On a more personal note, Steven is an ardent fan of musical theatre and he has been a strong supporter and fundraiser for our Musical Theatre programs. Fortunately, in retirement he intends to stay active with Sheridan’s Canadian Musical Theatre Project.
Steven has graciously provided a significant notice period in order for Sheridan to find a suitable candidate to fill this important position. His last day with us will be December 31, 2017.
As noted, it is with mixed emotion that I make this announcement. Steven has been an excellent colleague and friend and Sheridan will miss his expertise and passion. I know I speak on behalf of the entire Sheridan community when I wish him well through this transition period and on into an enjoyable retirement.
