As the holiday season approaches, there are many ways to take part in the spirit of giving this season, right there in our communities:
Mitten Trees
Holiday trees are now up on all four campuses! Help us decorate these trees by donating pairs of mittens, scarves and hats for children and adults who are in need this winter.
Using the clothespins provided on the basket near each tree, hang your pair of mittens on the tree. When each tree is full at the start the new year, we will collect them and donate them to a local charity.
Last year, we collected 114 pairs of socks, 70 hats, six scarves, four headbands/earmuffs, six packs of socks , 4 tooth brushes, and a sock monkey. These were donated to Kerr Street Ministries of Oakville and the Family Life Resource Centre of the Salvation Army in Brampton.
The trees can be found in the following locations:
- Trafalgar – in front of the Security desk in the B-wing or in front of the President’s Office
- Davis – Main entrance / Welcome Centre
- HMC – Atrium across from the Welcome Desk
- STC – Main entrance across from the Welcome Desk
SSU Food Bank Drive
New this year, we will be partnering with the Sheridan Student Union to collect items for the SSU Emergency Food Resource. SSU food bank bins will be placed alongside our mitten trees at the above locations at each campus. Donation items may include: any valid (non-expired), non-perishable food or drink items, condiments, diapers, personal hygiene products, feminine health products, toy and clothing.
Toy Drives
Sheridan’s Holiday Toy Drive will be brought to you this year by The Faculty of Applied Science and Technology & the Sheridan Engineering Club. Bring any new, unwrapped toys to the Davis B-wing second floor, where they will fill up the FAST electric car!
In addition to the FAST Toy Drive, we will be collecting toys for the Salvation Army of Oakville at the Trafalgar campus. Unwrapped toys can be dropped off under the tree outside the President’s office in B-wing.
