International Student Payment Solution
The majority of Sheridan’s International student population pay tuition fees via bank wire transfer. This has presented challenges to both students and Sheridan due to the cost and complexity of these transactions—exchange rates, administrations fees, and delays receiving payments and/or processing refunds.
Sheridan will be leveraging a new payment option, in partnership with CIBC, that will:
- introduce a better user experience for our international students
- streamline internal processes
- improve data integrity and security
- reduce short-balanced payments and fraud
- speed transaction processing time
The new payment solution will be introduced in the first quarter of 2017.
Case Management Project
The Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEI), Occupational Health & Safety Service (OHSS), Security, Employment Relations & Partnerships and Student Affairs often collaborate to resolve issues of threat, harassment, safety, and violence. Each of these departments has caseloads that are increasing due to changes in government policies and a growing Sheridan community.
The current system for maintaining case information varies from one department to another. Departments may use excel spreadsheets, access databases, written notes, emails and other mediums which are kept in physical filing systems. As caseloads and reporting requirements increase, it has become challenging to retrieve information from physical files, track follow-up dates, and keep within the regulatory/policy timeframes.
The goal of this project is to acquire and implement a case management solution that will:
- provide a common data repository for case management
- include a mechanism to share information across departments
- allow for the easy retrieval of information for review
- trigger alerts for follow-ups/flagging outstanding issues
- reduce the data export and reporting effort
- reduce the duplication of effort
The project team is currently finalizing the requirements for the RFP (request for proposal) and working towards implementing a solution by late summer 2017.
