Data Privacy Day is a day intended to help raise awareness and promote best practices regarding privacy and data protection.
In celebration of Data Privacy Day we have created a fun self-assessment questionnaire to help you gauge the security rating of your personal and sensitive information:
- Do you keep your passwords complex and unique for each of your accounts? ( y / n )
- Do you change your passwords following news of a data breach at an institution that you have accounts with? ( y / n)
- Do you keep your software and operating systems current and up to date? ( y / n )
- Do you use antivirus/antimalware software? ( y / n )
- Do you encrypt sensitive data? ( y / n )
- Do you regularly monitor activity on your online accounts for suspicious activity? ( y / n )
- Do you securely archive or delete data that you no longer need? ( y / n)
- Do you use Virtual Private Network (VPN) apps when connecting to free Wi-Fi networks? ( y / n )
- Have you reviewed and updated your privacy settings on accounts and mobile devices? ( y / n )
- Do you know how to recognize and avoid phishing attacks? ( y / n )
Ratings: Add up the number of “y” answers to see how private your data is.
Score Rating
1-3 Your data is at risk!
4-5 Your data is minimally protected, but there is more you need to do!
6-8 Your data is reasonably well protected, but there is more you can do.
9-10 Your data is well protected, well done!
If you scored under 6 you’ll want to reconsider you online activities with respect to accessing your personal accounts and entering your personal information online.
Unfortunately the threat of someone hacking into your accounts to access your personal information is real and the risks and cost can be significant. Don’t let someone take control of your identity, put some security measures in place, protect your privacy.
