To all Sheridan Employees:

Sheridan is committed to preventing sexual assault and sexual violence on our campuses, and to supporting survivors of sexual assault and sexual violence.

On January 1, 2017, new provincial legislation made it mandatory to train all employees in all colleges and universities in Ontario about ways to prevent, and to respond to incidents of sexual assault and sexual violence, and how to offer support when individuals disclose that they are a survivor of sexual assault or sexual violence.

Sheridan has adapted an online training module developed for Colleges Ontario, which meets the requirements to inform our community members on what sexual assault and sexual violence looks like, some ways to prevent it, reporting obligations, and tips for how to support individuals who might tell you that they have experienced sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. This training compliments Sheridan’s Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy and Protocol (see AccessSheridan, Policies and Procedures).

This online module goes live in SLATE for all active employees on May 1, 2017. You will receive an automated message with instructions once you are enrolled in the course. You are required to complete this training module (PD 4040) which should take approximately 40 minutes and includes a quiz. You may pause and restart the training at any point.  Please note, completion of this training will be tracked automatically, electronically by Sheridan’s PeopleSoft system. This training must be completed by June 1, 2017 or as soon as possible upon your return to the college if you are on vacation or leave during the spring semester.

This module includes audio, and a transcript. If you need more information about this module, or need information in an accessible format, please contact the Centre for Equity and Inclusion (CEI) at equity@sheridancollege.ca or by calling ext. 2229.

CEI appreciates your help in meeting our shared responsibility to make Sheridan a more inclusive and welcoming space for all.
