On April 7, Sheridan welcomed the Hon. Kevin Flynn, Minister of Labour and MPP for Oakville to the Trafalgar Road Campus, where he announced $2,801,400 in new funding to Sheridan as part of the Province’s celebration of the college system’s 50th anniversary. At the time, we announced that $400,000 would be directed to new welding equipment for the skilled trades programs, and $600,000 would support renovations and enhancements to the Library and Learning Commons at Trafalgar. We promised to report back on how the remaining $1.8 million would be allocated.
Following an internal consultation involving the Vice Provost and Deans, a number of projects were selected for funding, primarily aimed at upgrading program equipment and facilities in FAAD, FAHCS, and FAST. Examples include a CNC Turning Centre and CNC Vertical Mill for the Skilled Trades Centre; classroom and studio upgrades in FAAD; and new equipment and upgrades for programs in FAHCS. In addition, there are planned upgrades to the Davis Library, including new carrels and dividers, as well as the installation of a Medicine Wheel Garden Classroom – a teaching tool for educating students about Indigenous heritage and history – at the Trafalgar Campus.
These important investments in our programs and student support infrastructure will be ongoing over the remainder of the fiscal year. We extend our thanks once again to the Province of Ontario for this generous investment in Sheridan.
