It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Dr. Amjed Abdul Majeed as the Associate Dean for the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Technology.
Dr. Majeed enjoyed a career as faculty, Program Chair, and then Dean of Academic Operations at the Higher Colleges of Technology, United Arab Emirates.
As Program Chair, Amjed oversaw Mechanical, Electrical and Mechatronics Engineering Programs, and developed degree programs in engineering, taking the development through to ABET accreditation.
As Dean of Academic Operations, Amjed oversaw two campuses, one for men, and one for women, overseeing different programs in engineering, business, CIS, education and applied media.
Amjed’s education began in Bangor, Wales, UK and he moved on to take a BSc in electrical engineering from Mosul University, 1992; an MSc in Nuclear engineering from Baghdad University, 1995;and a PhD in grid and distributed systems (Wireless Sensor Networks) from Charles Sturt University – School of Computing and Mathematics, Australia.
Amjed’s industrial career was as an electrical engineer designer at the controller group of ThyessnKrupp Northern Elevator – Toronto 1999 to 2004.
Amjed and his family recently left the Middle East and headed back to Canada to settle in Toronto. His leadership philosophy centres around team empowerment, collaboration and perseverance. In his spare time, Amjed enjoys playing snooker, squash and tennis.
