Mental Illness Awareness Week

Mental Illness Awareness Week (MIAW) is an annual national public education campaign designed to help Canadians raise awareness to the reality of mental illness. The week, October 1 – 7, 2017, is coordinated by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health (CAMIMH) in cooperation with all its member organizations and many other supporters across Canada.

Additionally, World Mental Health Day is on October 10, 2017.

Did you know…?

  • Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression, the leading cause of disability (World Health Organization).
  • 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem or illness in a given year (CAMIMH)
  • About 20% of children worldwide are affected (World Health Organization)
  • Mental disorders are important risk factors for other diseases, as well as unintentional and intentional injury (World Health Organization)
