From Sheridan to Secret Path
Jeff Lemire (Advanced Illustration ’05) once spent his days drawing, and nights toiling in restaurant kitchens. Now, he’s the bestselling author and illustrator of Essex County and The Underwater Welder. He’s also behind the art in Secret Path, the powerful graphic novel accompaniment to the album by Gord Downie, which tells the story of Chanie (Charlie) Wenjack, who died while escaping from a residential school. Sheridan sends six to Premier’s Awards
Since 1992, the Ontario Premier’s Awards have celebrated outstanding college alumni. This year, Sheridan’s nominees, who will be honoured during a gala on Nov. 27, represent a broad spectrum of success. They are: casting director Stephanie Gorin (Music Theatre ’81); lawyer Stephanie Kam (International Business Management ’12); childcare advocate Charlotte Kanavos (ECE ’77); President and CEO of CWB Group Doug Luciani (Welder Fitter ’98); Ward Seymour (Business ’77), the retired Founder, President and Chairman of ASA Alloys/Magna Stainless; and Athletic Therapy grad Jason White (’08).
