This is just a friendly reminder about a recent email that was distributed regarding mandatory employee online WHMIS training.  If you were on faculty vacation during the 7A spring semester period, you are being asked to complete your training as soon as possible, but no later than one month after you return from vacation.

Upon hire or rehire (for part-time contracts), all employees will be enrolled in the mandatory training courses and instructions on how to access the training will be sent at that time.

If you do not know whether you successfully completed the training you may review your training status in PeopleSoft HR.  Click here to find instructions on how to view these details in PeopleSoft HR Employee Self Service.

Email excerpt from George Georgopoulos, Manger, Occupational Health and Safety sent to all Sheridan employees on May 6, 2013.

Subject:  WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) E-Learning Legislative Training for all Staff and Faculty

Sheridan College is committed to ensuring you have a safe and healthy workplace.  As the Manager, Occupational Health and Safety at Sheridan, I am pleased to announce that today we are launching WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) training to all Sheridan employees in an on-line format.

There are countless stories of people suffering injuries from a lack of awareness on chemicals and how to handle them in the workplace.  This WHMIS training will provide instruction on how to read labels that are provided on controlled products and how, through the requirement of Material Safety Data Sheets, to find detailed information such as handling, storage and first aid that can help prevent serious harm to you and your co-workers.

All full-time and part-time Sheridan employees are required to take this course within the next month whether they have received similar training in the past or had WHMIS training at any other organizations worked for previously.

This training must be completed by all current Sheridan employees by June 6, 2013.

Next Steps:

Every Sheridan employee is required to take the WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) Training E-learning module through SLATE, Sheridan’s Learning Management System.  You have already been enrolled in this online course.  Please follow these steps to access training:
