The Sheridan men’s basketball team bounced back from a heartbreaking overtime loss in the OCAA semi-final Friday night to win the provincial bronze medal, downing Redeemer 119-84 in the third place game.
“Bronze is tough to win. You have to pick yourself up and look deep into your character after being devastated the day before,” head coach Jim Flack said after the game. “But these guys never quit on us all year, so this performance was true to form.”
The Ontario Championship tournament hosted by Niagara College saw the Bruins defeat Fanshawe in the quarter-final, before dropping the semi-final to the eventual champions from Seneca.
Redeemer had beaten the Bruins twice in the regular season, on their way to finishing first in the OCAA West Division.
After a two-year medal drought in 2015 and 2016, the team has won three medals overall in the last two seasons, adding the bronze to Ontario gold and national silver claimed last year.
It was the 23rd Ontario medal won by the program and the 15th under the leadership of Flack.
