Farrah Khan

The #MeToo movement has affirmed the importance of consent in our campuses, workplaces and government. What do we do when we have a crush, learn a friend has caused harm, or when things get weird in a relationship and feel unsafe? How can we move forward as a community to address these issues and nurture spaces where everyone feels heard, safe and respected?

Sheridan is pleased to welcome nationally recognized counsellor, educator, and policy advisor Farrah Khan to the Trafalgar campus on March 15 for a conversation about consent and advancing a caring campus community. Join Farrah as we envision possibilities for cultivating gender justice in our communities and institutions.

When: March 15, 2018, 3:00 pm-5:00 pm

Where: Conference Centre, Trafalgar Campus

About Farrah Khan: Farrah picked up a microphone to speak out about sexual assault as a teenager and has not put it down since. She has spent two decades working to raise awareness about sexual violence. Farrah’s innovative research, passion, and sense of humour create an engaging dialogue that emphasizes pleasure and fun while addressing topics of consent and sexual assault prevention. She holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto and is Co-Chair of the Provincial Roundtable on Violence Against Women as well as the Manager of Ryerson’s Consent Comes First Office. Recognizing the power of mainstream media in shaping conversations about violence, Farrah and femifesto created “Use the Right Words: Media Reporting on Sexual Violence” as a guide for journalists. Use the Right Words has been used widely across North America by journalists, educators and translated into multiple languages.

This presentation is sponsored by the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies, Student Affairs, the Office of Campus Safety and Security, and the Women’s Campus Safety Grant, in partnership with the Sheridan Student Union.
