Sheridan’s Davis Campus hosted Spotlight Sheridan – May 1 to May 4

Spotlight Sheridan is an exciting opportunity for Grade 7 students to experience college life. This initiative is financially supported by the School College Work Initiative (SCWI), which is jointly funded by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development. Spotlight Sheridan encourages the knowledge, awareness, and value of a college education at an early stage in the students’ postsecondary decision making process, and it provides insight into possible career paths.

This year, over 725 Grade 7 students and their teachers from the Halton, Halton Catholic, Peel, and Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Boards attended Spotlight Sheridan. Students participated in four workshops, showcasing Sheridan’s focus on experiential learning. Each workshop was developed and delivered by Sheridan’s dedicated Faculty and student workers.

Through hands-on activities, students learned about the many creative and unique career options a Sheridan education can provide. Students had the opportunity to explore programs by animating a character, programming miniature electronic Lego cars, building Ethernet cables, practicing defense techniques, exploring a crime scene, and more.

Initiatives such as Spotlight Sheridan help empower students when making important decisions early on and broaden their knowledge of the countless possibilities awaiting them at college.

Some feedback from the students this year about what they learned at Spotlight Sheridan:

“It’s ok to make mistakes.”

“I learned that college is more hands-on and you have many choices.”

“I learned that college is very fun. I always thought it was scary but the workshops made me think it isn’t.”

“This place is awesome!”
