Sheridan’s Health and Wellness Peer Mentors are pleased to present the first-ever SHERIDANtalk: Breaking Barriers on Mental Health event on March 12 from 6 – 9:30pm in the Marquee at the Trafalgar Campus. Doors open at 5:30pm, and a community marketplace is open at 5:30pm in the Student Union lobby. Community marketplace partners include CHMA, ADAPT, SAVIS, Good2Talk, Workman Arts, Halton Women’s Place, Mentality Matters, MoveU, Sheridan Counselling, Schizophrenia Society, Phoenix, STRIDE, Oakville Distress Centre, and Light House. The event is sponsored by Student Union. Pre-registration is currently at 90 attendees – our capacity is 150. Please pre-register to ensure you will have a seat at the event! Register ahead of time – email healthandwellnesspeers@gmail.com with your name, email, and program.

The event is modelled after the well-known TEDtalks, and will build off of the Canada-wide “Unleash the Noise” Mental Health Innovation Summit organized through The Jack Project. Speakers include Eric Windeler and Erin Hodgson from The Jack Project; Mark Henick, from TEDxToronto 2013; and Arthur Gallant, one of the ‘Faces of Mental Illness’ from the Bell Let’s Talk initiative. Several Sheridan students and alumni have also bravely agreed to share their stories at the event.

Come out from some free food and drinks, Q&A panel, and breakout discussion groups. We invite all Sheridan staff, faculty, and students to come out to this event, and help shape the community that we all work, and live in, together.

Break the barrier – Spread the word!
