Sleep in Your Car EventCongratulations, Team Sheridan!

On September 29, Sheridan’s President and Vice Chancellor Dr. Janet Morrison led Team Sheridan at the second annual Sleep in Your Car event organized by Home Suite Hope – a community organization that supports low-income, single parents in Halton Region by providing access to housing, education and skills development.

Team Sheridan, which included Janet and Bachelor of Music Theatre Performance students Jill Goranson, Michael Derworiz, Noah Beemer and Kelsi James, was one of five teams taking part in Sleep in Your Car. Each team was mandated to sleep in their vehicle – unless they raised $25,000 before the September 29 deadline.

Team Sheridan raised a remarkable $30,000! Thank you to all members of the Sheridan community for donating to this cause.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the Sheridan community for rallying together in support of such an important issue,” Janet says. “We didn’t end up sleeping in our car, but others are not so fortunate. This is a reality for members of our community, and it’s crucial that we help in any way we can.”

Sheridan Sociology professor and Home Suite Hope Program Director Sara Cumming also participated in the incredible event. Her team raised more than $31,000 – contributing to the grand total of $170,000 raised.

Did you know? Each $2,000 raised will feed and house a family for an entire month. All proceeds raised from the event will go toward housing, education, support and training for the community’s most vulnerable lone-parent families in order to combat homelessness, which is a growing problem in Halton.

Sheridan is proud to be a cornerstone supporter of Home Suite Hope. For a number of years, Sheridan has supported single mothers in need by providing access to education and other educational supports.
