A pair of Sheridan Bruins varsity teams will be representing the Double Blue in national championship events this week. The men’s soccer team is bound for Prince Edward Island, while the cross country teams will head to King City, Ont. later this week.
The men’s soccer team qualified as a CCAA wildcard after claiming a silver medal in a tight 2-1 loss to Humber in the OCAA Championship Game on October 27. They will open their tournament against Capilano University, champions of the PacWest Conference, on November 7 at 4:30 p.m. EST.
The Bruins are making their first appearance in the national soccer championship since winning the gold medal on home soil in 2014.
Meanwhile, cross country is back in the national picture for a second consecutive year on the heels of their most successful OCAA Championship since the program was revived in 2014. The men’s team won a second straight OCAA bronze medal, while the women’s team were fifth, marking their highest provincial finish since 1989 when they won silver.
The two teams will run for national gold on Saturday, November 10 at the Seneca King Campus, located just north of Toronto. The women’s race will commence at 12 p.m., followed by the men’s race at 1 p.m.
