Thanks to our community’s continuing efforts to make Sheridan a green campus, we are pleased to announce Sheridan has retained its Silver STARS rating from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Every year, colleges and universities around the world use the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS), to voluntarily track and report their sustainability performance.
AASHE awards Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze status based on the performance in each of the following fields: Operations, Academics, Engagement, Planning & Administration and Innovation & Leadership.
We have experienced considerable improvements in the Research, Campus and Community Engagement, Energy, Waste and Innovation areas. The new and improved District Energy Centre at the Davis Campus, which has drastically improved heating efficiency, is a prime example of our advances in energy and innovation.
The Material ConneXion Library at HMC is also supporting us as we continue to incorporate energy efficient designs into our community. The innovative library contains over 1,000 sustainable, recyclable, renewable or biodegradable materials that inspire our students and enhance the sustainability of design projects. It’s the first of its kind in Canada and puts Sheridan in the company of only 15 other post-secondary institutions worldwide.
The Office for Sustainability wants to thank everyone who provided important data by filling out this year’s assessment. The data collection for the STARS survey spanned nearly every department across all campuses.
