marco rossMarco Ross, a fourth-year Mobile Computing Degree student, has worked tirelessly to produce his Honours thesis. Marco successfully delivered his research paper on developing a smart software tool that facilitates automatic identification and analysis of food-health articles for health promotions which focused on Diabetes, CVD and Cancer patients. The paper, entitled “Exploring  Identifiers of Research Articles Related to Food and Disease using Artificial Intelligence,” co-authored by El Sayed Mahmoud, Applied Computing professor at Sheridan, and El-Sayed M. Abdel-Aal, Research Scientist at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, has been accepted for publication in the November issue of the International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications (IJACSA).

Being a student in the first-ever cohort of Mobile Computing Degree students, his perspective on the program is enlightening and speaks to his experience at Sheridan.

“The best part of the program, for me, has been the focus on applied learning both inside the classroom and on our personal projects. Our professors place a strong emphasis on learning by doing and that suits me well… The program nurtures an environment for self-driven learning and encourages us to step outside of our comfort zones. I would certainly recommend it to others thinking of pursuing a career in software development or computer science in general as you learn a lot of skills that students at other universities may not have. I found that to be especially true during my co-op work terms where I met students from other universities and colleges who had a strong theoretical grasp of the material but were sort of lacking on the actual coding and application side of things.”

Congratulations to Marco whose hard work and effort are going to be publicly recognized by the publishing of his Honours thesis.
