I am pleased to announce some exciting changes within the areas of Finance and Administration and External Relations at Sheridan.
First, I’m very happy to announce the appointment of Dan McKerrall to the position of Associate Vice President, Financial Services, effective January 2, 2019. Many of you already know Dan, who joined Sheridan in the role of Director, Budget and Financial Planning in July of this year. Since that time, he has quickly proven himself to be a very valuable asset to the Finance team and to Sheridan as a whole, making significant contributions to the 19/20 budget planning process. I have received positive feedback from many of you over the past several months about your experiences working with Dan. Sheridan has and will continue to benefit from his senior-level sector knowledge and experience.
Prior to joining Sheridan, Dan held progressive roles at Mohawk College over an eight-year span, including the role of Director, Academic Operations and that of Associate Dean, Continuing Education. In these positions he led a number of key initiatives including the development of the college’s Academic Plan, an overhaul of the Academic Quality Assurance model, and a review and revitalization of the Continuing Education portfolio. During this time, he also played key roles in building a Strategic Enrolment Management framework and supporting major shifts in the academic budget model, and served as the Chair of the Finance, Risk Management and Policy Committee for OntarioLearn. Before joining Mohawk, Dan worked for the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board for eight years in progressive roles in the area of Accommodation and Planning. To round out his professional endeavours, Dan currently volunteers his services to the Audit Committee of the Halton District School Board, and the CPA Ontario Professional Education Program. He has previously served on the Quality Committee at Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington. Dan holds a Mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo and a CPA, CMA designation.
In addition, Elisabeth Connell will be taking on a new and exciting role within the area of External Relations. The Events team will move to the External Relations area along with Beth. Beth will now report to Jeff Vallentin, Vice President External Relations and take on different responsibilities as Director, Community Engagement, Special Events and Ceremonies. In this senior leadership role, Beth will champion Sheridan’s efforts to grow strong reciprocal relationships with external stakeholders and ensure Sheridan’s events and ceremonies continue to be outcome-driven and highly impactful. We’re excited for Beth to shift into this new role where she will leverage her commitment to high quality as a driver of Sheridan’s brand and reputation across the region and among all external stakeholders.
As a result, I have taken this opportunity to make some adjustments to the lead role within Ancillary Services. The new role will be Associate Vice President, Business Services and will take on some additional responsibilities from within the Finance and Administration portfolio. This position will take a forward-thinking role in enhancing Sheridan’s procurement and ancillary services, which play a key role in supporting Sheridan’s strategic priorities. The objectives of the position will emphasize our commitment to the student experience combined with operational sustainability.
A posting for an Associate Vice President, Business Services will come out shortly. Beth will begin her new duties in external relations in early 2019 once the AVP position is filled.
Please join me in congratulating Dan and Beth as they embark on these new and exciting opportunities!
Sincerely,
Wayne Steffler
