To provide you with extra support while ensuring waste diversion from landfills, Facilities Services and Sustainability are bringing in additional resources. Staff and volunteers will be on-hand to help you sort through your items at the drop-off sites. Any reusable supplies will be donated to charitable organizations. We will also provide moving services for heavy and bulky items such as surplus furniture.

In the previous Insider post, we discussed what to expect during the day of the event. This week, we would like to remind our community members about the types of waste we are accepting at the Community Drop-off Sites. Please visit the Winter Office Cleanup FAQ page to learn more.

Acceptable Waste Items:

  • Landfill waste
  • Confidential documents (see the next part below)
  • E-waste with low value, no computers (see the next part below)

Records Management and Privacy:
Please follow Sheridan’s policies on records management and privacy, which is available on Access Sheridan or in Sheridan’s Policy Viewer.  You can also refer to the Records and Information Management (RIM) Office Cleanup Tip Sheet. For more details, please visit the RIM website.

Electronic Waste:
Old, broken, unusable electronics of low value (i.e. mice, keyboards, cables, adapters, small desktop printers, etc.) can be disposed of at the e-waste recycling bin at your Community Drop-off Site. For items such as desktops, laptops, larger photocopy or MFD print devices, please open a case with the IT Service Desk for a proper review and handling of the item. If unsure, please consult IT Services.

Furniture Items:
Approval from your department manager is required for surplus furniture removal. For details about the removal procedure, please refer to the FAQ Winter Office Cleanup page.

Prizes!
Participants can also sign out a bin for collecting additional waste from their office. You will receive a raffle ticket for each bag or bin of waste you bring back to your Community Drop-off Site. To recognize your support for the Office Cleanup event, a raffle prize of a free team lunch from Subway will be offered at each campus. The raffle draw results will be announced in January.
