Sheridan Senate Highlights
November 2013, and January and February 2014 Meetings:
Senate voted to replace the term “Senate Councillors” with “Senators”
Senate provided input to the Board of Governors’ (BoG) draft Policy One – Development and Management of Policies and Procedures
Senate heard a presentation from Alexa Abiscott, General Counsel & Information Privacy Officer on the draft Policy One document previously reviewed by President’s Council. The draft policy was amended based on feedback prior to going to the BoG for final approval (January 22, 2014 Board of Governors meeting) Policy One – Development and Management of Policies and Procedures can be found on Sheridan’s Policy Site https://policy.sheridanc.on.ca/Default.aspx
Senate heard presentations/updates on:
- Creating the Future Today: Navigating Change in Canadian Undergraduate Education, the inaugural conference Sheridan is cohosting with the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) on May 1st and 2nd, 2014. Presented by Sara Rumsey, Vision Transition Project Manager.
- Academic IT Systems and Impacts outlining the work underway to bring new or upgraded IT systems to the work/areas of 1) managing the curriculum planning process, 2) academic term planning, 3) Continuing Education and Professional Studies e-store, 4) People Soft upgrade with Student and HR systems, and 5) teaching and learning technology. Presented by Brian Jervis, Director Academic Computing Integration Strategy.
Sheridan Undergraduate Certificate model recommended to the BoG for approval
Yael Katz, Associate Dean FHASS and Special Advisor, Creative Campus, outlined a proposed Sheridan Undergraduate Certificate model in which a set of degree breadth elective courses that satisfy degree breadth elective policy requirements are formalized as a Sheridan Undergraduate Certificate to be awarded to students who elect to complete the given set of courses. In the future a student might graduate with a degree from Sheridan and could also receive a Sheridan Undergraduate Certificate in …. For example (yet to be developed), Creative Problem Solving, or Sustainability, or another specialized interest area.
