Exciting news! Three Sheridan alumni have earned Oscar nominations; two Animation alumni received nods in the Best Animated Short Film category for their directorial debuts, while a Media Arts alumnus received a nomination for Best Sound Mixing.
- Domee Shi, who is the first woman ever to direct a Pixar short, received her nomination for the short Bao. The film, which screened ahead of Incredibles 2 in theatres, tells the story of an aging Chinese-Canadian mother who receives a second chance at motherhood when a dumpling comes to life.
- Trevor Jimenez, a story artist with Pixar, received his nomination for the animated short Weekends. The short follows a young boy as he shuffles between the homes of his divorced parents.
- Craig Henighan received an Oscar nomination in the Best Sound Mixing category for the film Roma. Henighan recently won two Emmy Awards for his work on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things.
Animation alumni also worked on four of the five projects nominated for Best Animated Feature, including Incredibles 2, Isle of Dogs, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The winners of the 91st Academy Awards will be announced at a ceremony on February 24, 2019.
Congratulations to Domee, Trevor and Craig on these remarkable achievements!
