wildflower gardenSheridan was recently recognized in the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation (TD FEF) 2018 Annual Report for its Wildflower and Pollinator Protection and Enhancement Program.

You may remember the common buckthorn, one of Ontario’s most unwanted invasive species, was crowding out native species at the Trafalgar Campus about two and a half years ago. Sheridan removed all of the invasive buckthorn at the site and replaced it with a wildflower garden consisting of 300 wildflowers and native grasses to attract pollinators, such as butterflies and bees. This year, thanks to funding from TD FEF, Sheridan conducted a second planting of native species, enhancing the pollinator garden and promoting the importance of biodiversity.

Great news! Thanks to funding assistance, as well as generous support from community partners and volunteers across the Sheridan community, we have doubled the amount of wildflowers and native grass at the Trafalgar Campus and reduced the chance of buckthorn returning.

Way to go!
