black history monthIn partnership with the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton (CCAH), we’re excited to celebrate Black History Month here at Sheridan!

Please join us as we take time to reflect upon, acknowledge and appreciate the significant contributions that black communities all around the world have made throughout history. We’re proud to take part in the following initiatives to honour this important month:

Poster and Art Exhibition Display (February):
Check out the artwork of Sheridan students at The Life and Times of Ira Junius Johnson exhibition, which includes posters, artwork and text. Facilitated by FHASS students and faculty members, this exhibit is running all month long at Trafalgar Park Community Centre.

Film Screening: Black Panther (February 21):
Sheridan Reads, Sheridan Student Union (SSU) and CCAH invite all members of the community to a special screening of Black Panther at the Trafalgar Campus (B125). Directed by Ryan Coogler, 2018’s top grossing film, Black Panther, is nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards. Join us for this pre-Oscar screening as we cheer on the film, celebrate Black History Month, and look forward to further conversations about works of African fantasy as Sheridan Reads prepares to welcome Man Booker Prize-winning author Marlon James on March 4 to discuss his new novel Black Leopard, Red Wolf.

Pop-Up Music Event (February 22):
The SSU will be hosting an interactive musical performance by John Campbell in the SSU Atrium (Trafalgar Campus) from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m. Traditional Caribbean food, such as roti and Jamaican patty, will be served.
