Over the past year, Sheridan engaged in a comprehensive review of its Disability Management function with the goal of streamlining the process for employees, managers and Human Resources staff.  As part of the review, we determined that Sheridan would be well served by an in-house resource dedicated to coordinating and administering the Disability Management process.

I am thrilled to announce that Jamie Maki has joined Sheridan as the Workplace Abilities Coordinator. Jamie comes to us from Great-West Life Assurance Company where she was Rehabilitation Coordinator.  In that role, Jamie was responsible for proactively managing a large case load of Short Term Disability (STD) and Long Term Disability (LTD) claims for multiple policy holders.  Jamie’s responsibilities included ensuring the safe and timely return to work of employees who incurred an illness or injury.

Jamie holds a Honours Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario and a Human Resource Management Post Graduate Certificate from Mohawk College.

Our Disability Management Office will now be known as the Workplace Abilities Office (WAO).  WAO will plan and coordinate all activities related to STD, LTD and Workplace Safety and Insurance Board claims. In addition, WAO will be involved in all activities/interventions related to disability accommodation and return to work functions leading to the early, safe and successful return to work for employees.

Warm Regards,

Rebecca Sprague
Director, HR Services
