To reward the top-performing students from the School of Chemical and Environmental Studies, students were provided with an opportunity to learn about thermal analysis and the importance of a mass balance in chemical processes during Reading Week.
The students were divided into pairs and given one unknown inorganic compound per group. Their goal was to identify it using thermal analysis, as well as their knowledge about the solubility of inorganic compounds and flame test colours.
Lots of fun was had in the lab (and no report afterwards!).
