SIRT studentDid you know that Sheridan has five renowned Research Centres and an innovative Entrepreneurship Hub?

Over the next few months, Sheridan Research will spotlight the work of its respected Research Centres and Hub. The first week’s installment introduces you to the Screen Industries Research and Training Centre (SIRT).

Located at Toronto’s Pinewood Studios, SIRT supports innovation in Ontario’s film, television and interactive media industries through applied research, training and other support. As a government funded Technology Access Centre, its work with dedicated research leads, faculty and students in Digital Cinema, Mixed Reality and Digital Humans is at the forefront of storytelling for the next generation of content creators.

Among many initiatives in the film, television and media industries, SIRT initiated the commercialization of SirtNet, a private broadband fibre network that provides necessary and complex IT services to the screen industry across the Greater Toronto Area. SIRT also provides interdisciplinary opportunities for Sheridan students and faculty to become involved in their research and training. In 2018, 49 students were employed at SIRT, with 98% beginning as student co-op placements.

To book a site visit or find out about research opportunities, please contact SIRT’s Director, David Dexter.
