Help Protect the Environment!
Every year, about 20 to 50 million tons of electronics waste are generated globally. It is the most rapidly growing type of the municipal solid waste and contributes to more than 5% of all municipal solid waste.
As part of the Zero Waste Initiative, Sheridan supports the recycling of outdated e-waste. Recycling e-waste can bring multiple benefits to all of us:
- Save resources – Through recycling, valuable materials such as aluminium, copper, gold, silver and plastics are extracted from old electronics for making new products (construction material, park benches, etc). As fewer raw materials are extracted from the earth, not only can we save resources, but also save energy, cut pollution and produce less greenhouse gases.
- Protect your surroundings and conserve landfill space – Computers, televisions and other electronics contain hazardous chemicals such as lead, mercury and cadmium. They are kept out of landfills through proper recycling management.
- Provide employment – New jobs like professional recyclers and refurbishers are created.
So how can you help recycle e-waste?
