Accessible Learning and the Career Centre collaborated to offer a pilot program this term to students and recent graduates registered with Accessible Learning. Called Sheridan’s EmployAbility Program, the purpose of the program has been to support participants in their transition from college to work through job readiness activities. Two Employment Consultants from the Career Centre, several Peer Mentors from both the Career Centre and Accessible Learning joined the Accessible Employment Consultant and SSW Field Placement Student to plan and facilitate a day-long program. Forty participants completed the day of workshops with topics including cover letters and resumes, interview skills, networking, and law and accommodations in the workplace.

In addition, program requirements called for participants to complete two online modules on portfolio for employment and job strategies through SLATE and complete two mock job interviews to receive CCR designation.

Sheridan gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the Pendle Fund at the Community Foundation of Mississauga which made this program possible.

It is hoped that this opportunity will be available to Sheridan students again next year.
