Sheridan’s AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act) journey began in 2010 with the introduction of the Customer Service Standard Training. The subsequent three years have brought many other exciting initiatives surrounding issues of accessibility and inclusion within our community. Through this work we have been recognized as leaders in AODA initiatives by both our peers and the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario.

While there are many successes to celebrate, this work is a continual learning process and we are pleased to announce today our next step towards becoming an increasingly inclusive community. On April 14 all employees were enrolled in our new training, Inclusion at Sheridan: Human Rights, AODA and the Sheridan Workplace. This training will help employees understand our shared responsibilities to the Ontario Human Rights Code and the AODA legislation and will supplement the Accessible Customer Service Training.

Also included in this training is important information about Sheridan’s new policy for employees requesting an accommodation. The Employee Accommodation Policy details how Sheridan responds to employee accommodation requests when based on any ground of the Ontario Human Rights Code.

All existing full and part-time employees were enrolled in the training in SLATE on Monday, April 14 with the expectation that training will be completed by May 12, 2014. The training should take no longer than 25 minutes and will provide an in depth look at some of the human rights and accessibility issues arising within our community and the many processes and supports Sheridan has in place to resolve them.
