From a state-of-the-art robotics lab to advanced welding, the Advancement department has been busy striking partnerships with industry leaders.
ABB, a global leader in power and automation technology that lowers environmental impact, has provided $185,000 as an in-kind contribution to support students, faculty and industry associated with the School of Mechanical & Electrical Engineering and Technology. The company is providing six state-of-the-art robots and an accompanying training system never before provided to a post-secondary institute anywhere in the world. ABB is entering in to this unique collaborative relationship thanks mainly to the vision and execution of Associate Dean, Farzad Rayegani. As a result of this partnership, ABB hopes to attract top Sheridan students experienced in working with the advanced equipment that they’ve provided to the college.
Almag Aluminum made a $25,000 pledge in support of the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing and Design Technologies (CAMDT). Bob Peacock, president, former chair of the Brampton Board of Trade, and a past Sheridan volunteer, was impressed with the increased capacity for CAMDT to support economic development in the region and the needs of his own company, now in its 62nd year.
The Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) recently signed a gift agreement with Sheridan for $100,000, enabling Sheridan to establish the Canadian Welding Bureau Lab. This partnership enables Sheridan to increase the number of classes that can be accommodated, support the continued excellence of our program, and enables us to deliver a state-of-the-art two-year program. Students, upon graduation, will be better positioned to gain immediate employment. Sheridan Associate Dean Alan Reid; Welding Program Coordinator Steve Summers; and CWB President & CEO Doug Luciani, who is also a Sheridan alumnus, were instrumental in bringing this partnership to fruition.
Enersource is proud of their investment of $100,000 which is dedicated to the expansion of the Hazel McCallion campus in Mississauga. The company has been delivering energy to the city since 1917. Enersource would like to see long-term collaborations with Sheridan to support the company’s need for skilled workers and increased knowledge in sustainable energy practices.
Patheon Inc., a leading provider of contract drug development and manufacturing services, is supporting the creation of the Industrial Pharmacy Technologist postgraduate certificate program to be offered by the Faculty of Applied Health & Community Studies. Their investment of $125,000 over two years will provide students with a combination of strong theoretical and hands-on training in industrial pharmacy, preparing them for careers as industrial technologists for pharmaceutical manufacturers. Associate Dean, Mardy Frazer worked with the Advancement department to help secure this valuable donation.
The Rotary Club of Mississauga provided a $10,000 donation to Sheridan’s Enactus Club. Enactus Canada is a community of student, academic and business leaders enabling progress through entrepreneurial action. Guided by academic advisors and business experts, the student leaders of Enactus create and implement community empowerment projects. The funds provided made it possible for some additional Sheridan club members to travel to the national competition held recently in Calgary.
